Lifeguard Instructor Training

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to train Lifeguarding instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Lifeguarding Blended Learning, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding, Waterpark Skills CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 17 years
  • Possess a current Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Complete the Online Session for the Lifeguarding Instructor course and complete the pre-course session.

Note: To teach Waterfront Skills Lifeguarding instructors must possess a basic-level Waterfront Skills certificate.

Lifeguard Instructor Training

The purpose of this course is to review the skills of a lifeguard and check the knowledge of the participants. Upon successful completion of this class, participants’ lifeguarding instructor certifications will be renewed for two more years.

Prerequisites

  • Must have an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate that expires no earlier than 30 days before the class date.
  • Swim 300 yards continuously
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.
  • Complete the following events in 1 minute, 40 seconds:
  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Face may be in or out of the water.
  • Surface feet-first or head-first, depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
  • Return to the surface and swim back with object. Climb out without using ladder or stairs
