The YMCA offers FREE swim lessons* to children who qualify. Our swim lessons are taught by YMCA trained and certified Swim Instructors and are always under the watchful eye of a YMCA Certified Lifeguard. Students are grouped according to their ability; no previous experience is necessary.  In order to qualify, the youth or family must participate in and provide proof of one of the following: Free/Reduced School Lunch, WIC, Medical Assistance, CCAP, or SNAP. Thees session will be held Saturdays 9/26 through 10/31 from 11:00 – 12:00.

The YMCA swim team is a developmental swim program run by trained coaches to improve swimmers‘ competitive skills and endurance through progression rather than intense competition. The YMCA swim team promotes healthy lifestyles while embracing the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Requirement: Swimmer needs to be able to swim the length of the pool, 25 yards, with no flotation.

October 16 – 18Must complete a pretest* prior to registration. To take this pretest, please contact Tracey by calling 507.433.1804 ext. 104 or by email at

*All interested candidates must pass a pre swim test before registering for the course:

50 yards of each of the following:

  • Freestyle face in
  • Freestyle face out
  • Breaststroke face in 
  • Breaststroke face out
  • Sidestroke
  • Elementary backstroke kick only
  • Swim 100 yards freestyle

Then complete the following:

Start in shallow end of pool and spring down to deep end, dive down and retrieve brick, bring brick to the surface, then tread water for 2 minutes without using your hands, then exit the pool without use of the ladder. 


Must attend all 3 full days in order to be eligible to pass.
