The YMCA swim team is a developmental swim program run by trained coaches to improve swimmers‘ competitive skills and endurance through progression rather than intense competition. The YMCA swim team promotes healthy lifestyles while embracing the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Requirement: Swimmer needs to be able to swim the length of the pool, 25 yards, with no flotation.

Session Dates:
November 9 – February 12

Swimmer is able to swim 1-25 yard of freestyle with face in water majority of the time. Swimmer must be able to do this without flotation. This group would be geared towards swimmers that have passed at least level 3 in swim lessons. 
Tuesday & Thursday
5:15 – 5:45pm
$50 YMCA/Community Member

Swimmer is able to swim 50 yards of freestyle with the face in the water majority of the time. Swimmer must demonstrate basic knowledge of dives or starts. Swimmer must also have the basic fundamentals of backstroke and be able to swim a min of a 25 yards. 
Monday, Wednesday & Friday
3:30 – 4:30pm
$65 YMCA/Community Member

Swimmer should have general understanding of at least breast stroke or butterfly and be able to swim a 50 of freestyle and backstroke. Demonstrate basic knowledge of a flip turn and start. 
Monday, Wednesday & Friday
4:45 – 5:45pm
$75 YMCA/Community Member

Swimmer must be able to swim 3 out of the 4 strokes legally in a distance of at a min 50 yards. Swimmer must demonstrate the ability to take correction and learn from mistakes.

and Thursday
3:30 – 5:00pm

October 16 – 18Must complete a pretest* prior to registration. To take this pretest, please contact Tracey by calling 507.433.1804 ext. 104 or by email at

*All interested candidates must pass a pre swim test before registering for the course:

50 yards of each of the following:

  • Freestyle face in
  • Freestyle face out
  • Breaststroke face in 
  • Breaststroke face out
  • Sidestroke
  • Elementary backstroke kick only
  • Swim 100 yards freestyle

Then complete the following:

Start in shallow end of pool and spring down to deep end, dive down and retrieve brick, bring brick to the surface, then tread water for 2 minutes without using your hands, then exit the pool without use of the ladder. 


Must attend all 3 full days in order to be eligible to pass.
