Instructor: Mariah Evans

Bio: Originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mariah started playing volleyball at ten years old. She helped lead her Lewis Palmer High School to an 81-6 record over three years after transferring in as a sophomore, making the CHSAA 4A State Championship match all three years including two state titles and the No. 1 national ranking in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 her junior year. Mariah was rated the No. 66 recruit in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com and accrued numerous conference, state, and national honors. She totaled 1,934 high school assists, averaging 9.6 per set over her final two seasons.

Mariah played club volleyball for the Colorado Juniors from 2009-16, and was a captain every year. She was a two-time RMR Division 1 All-Region (2013, 2014) and 2015 RMR Regional All-Star. In 2016, she was named PrepVolleyball All-America and named All-Tournament at 2016 Nationals.

Mariah committed to play at UNC as a sophomore in high school. During her freshman year she played in all 33 matches as a 6-2 setter with Abigail Curry, appearing in 122 of 125 sets. She ranks seventh all time among UNC freshmen in total assists and sixth in sets played. Along with Curry she led UNC’s offense to its second-highest hitting percentage in program history, an ACC-leading .273 clip. She posted her best numbers of the season against No. 8 UCLA at NCAA Regionals with 27 assists and 12 digs. She was an

Undergraduate Assistant Coach on the team since her retirement. Mariah graduated in Spring 2020 with a major in Journalism and a minor in History.

After graduating, she moved to Austin at the beginning of June. She has been coaching since she was 16 years old and has a true passion for guiding female athletes. Her biggest role models in high school were her coaches and trainers. Her goal is to help as many athletes, specifically female athletes, as she can in Austin. Not only in their physical goals, but in navigating and holding oneself through today’s society as a young woman.
