|Dear Valued Y Member,|
We deeply appreciate your patience as we navigate the impact of coronavirus in our community. We are all operating in unknown territory, and we are working diligently to keep you updated.
With your support, we are guided by our commitment to support our community, and this is even more critical now. When you belong to the Y, you are not only a member of a health and wellness center, you are a member of an organization dedicated to strengthening community. In difficult times, the Y pivots in response to community needs, and finds ways to use our resources to offer solutions.
Together We Strengthen Our Community
While we look forward to restoring our operations as soon as possible, your membership helps us meet critical needs during this pandemic. We are working to position our Y to offer necessary resources not just in the short term but throughout the duration of this event. You have the opportunity to serve a critical role in helping us offer services and serve our community by continuing your membership dues.
Child Care – Our Y is positioned to offer essential childcare to Tier 2 workers and additional employee groups as necessary. We anticipate this need to grow as time goes on, and we are ready to serve these families. If you or someone you know are in need of Tier 2 childcare, please click here.
Blood Drive – We are coordinating with the Red Cross to host a blood drive to maintain our essential blood supply. This collaboration is more important than ever and currently scheduled for April 17, 9:00am – 3:00pm. If you’re interested in donating, please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter: YMCA Austin to schedule an appointment.
Community Collaborations – We are collaborating with the United Way and other community organizations to provide essential services as needs arise. We anticipate that we have not yet begun to understand the full extent of our community need but will be part of the conversation to offer solutions that have a lasting impact on our health and prosperity.
YMCA 360 – Our Y offers you and the community a set of virtual exercise classes and wellbeing programs for all ages to do from home with the newly launched YMCA360.org. With new exercises added daily, Y360 will keep you up on your daily exercise routines. You can also visit our website for our daily WOD.
Serving you Better – We want to serve you! We miss all of you that have been with us over the years, as well as the many that have joined us throughout the past weeks, and while we can’t invite you back just yet, we want to know what more we can do to serve you. We want to engage with you in a meaningful way and make you still feel part of our Y community. Please take a few minutes and tell us about you, complete this short survey.
While this may not seem like much, please understand, we are thinking of long term, sustainable solutions that will allow us to engage with our members and support our community in non-traditional ways. Our business model and way of life will be forever changed. Please continue to support us as we navigate this new path. We’re all in this together, for
the long haul!
Thank you for being a Y member and supporting our community. We want you to know that we deeply appreciate your support as a non-profit and welcome you along this journey as a cause-driven organization.
We understand that not everyone will be able to #StayWithUs us during this very unprecedented time. If this may be the case for you, you may place your Membership on hold .
Stay safe, stay healthy and please stay with us!

EMERGENCY CHILD CARE REVISED
Yesterday the Governor announced that YMCA’s would offer care to school-aged children of Tier 2 Emergency workers. While this is not part of our normal programming, we accepted the challenge. In doing so, we set this up under the guidelines presented by the Governor which included a rate of $40/day per child. We have since clarified with state officials that we can determine a rate better suited for our community. Based on local research we are lowering the rate to $30/day per child. While this still may be a hardship for many, we are offering financial assistance. We are working diligently to ensure that critical workers in our community have access to the quality care they need and deserve. Based on the need, we may be able to provide lunch on-site to help relieve the burden on families.
In addition to Tier 2 Emergency workers we will look to accommodate other essential workers that have not yet been classified by the Governor. Employees considered Tier 1 can access FREE care through the Austin Public Schools.
Tier 2 Emergency workers MUST REGISTER FOR CARE. If you are in need of Tier 2 Child Care, please fill out this form, we will screen the information collected and prioritize the Care to our Essential Emergency workers first.
We all need to be considerate of others, this is a difficult time for us all and we are doing our best to work through these processes that have been mandated. The Y is known for bringing communities together and finding solutions during challenging times. We are ready to accept this challenge and work to fill this need in our community.
Updates as of March 20, 2020
Governor Tim Walz announced today that Minnesota will partner with the YMCA’s to care for the school-age children of emergency workers in Minnesota. The YMCA at ACRC is ready to meet this need in our community.
We are offering child care to Essential Emergency Workers and working to assess the additional need for non-essential Child Care. If you are in need of Child Care, please fill out this form, we will screen the information collected and prioritize the Care to our Essential Emergency Workers first. Please be mindful that if we have the need for more child care, we will do our best to accommodate.
This first round of child care will be capped at 18 due to staffing and social distance practices. If we find the need for child care is greater, we will reassess and look to add additional capacity.
